The Maridi Parish is writing to request for financial support for Mission Project Assistance: Maridi Parish, Southern Sudan. Fr Philip is in need of financial assistance as he is facing challenges in reconstructing an Orphanage (Kindergarten, Primary school and a Teachers' Residences; A Youth Vocational Development Centre in his Parish). He is also superheading this as part of his Social Services and Development program (CARITAS MAridi).

From Msgr. Fr. Andrew Mbunia, the former Vicar General, Curia, Yambio, Tombura Tambio Diocese has  written about a need - quote: -

1) "We have a Fathers' house to host 2 Fathers, ie, Parish Priest & his Curate, needs completion & has no funds available to complete."This an SOS.

 2) "We need lighting system, office's furniture, water system, a computer set to be in the parish at the secretay office, and we have a future plan to erect parish school & an institution to enable those students get life skills especially when they complete secondary studies and be able to be self reliant and etc. Contact: Fr andrew Mbunia, Vicar General, Curia Yambio, c/o P.O. 3) Rimenze Parish is need of improving of Safe Water for all by sinking 3# community Boreholes and protection of 3# permanent wells. Feel free to contact Fr. Richard Mangu on the above Diocesan address above.

4) Ezo Parish office from December 2008, needs help with supporting a project proposal for solar panel from need through action plans to success? If possible, please approach others NPO/NGOs there that might be in position to respond to projects such as:

This approach hopefully; will contribute to facilitation of human development communication to stakeholders downstream. may be not but let us give a try and see how things go from thereon. Background

The word Caritas means caring and concern for the poor and vulnerable in society.

Caritas Maridi {Social Service and development} is starting as an Organisation in the Tombura Yambio Diocese.

            It is the social pastoral arm of the Sudan  Episcopal Conference and one of the commissions at the Sudan Catholic Secretariat whose focus is development activities in the Diocese.

            Caritas Maridi is will be a member of the Caritas Internationalis Confederation whose secretariat is in Rome and composed of 164 member organisations.

 

Importance of Caritas

The importance of Caritas lies in structuring the means of socio-pastoral action to provide the means for effective and coherent work with a mission in mind.

Caritas Inspiration

Caritas derives its inspiration from:

·        The witness of Christian Holy Scripture and a living tradition of social teaching of the Church.

·        Fundamental reference points – Holy Scripture, the example of Jesus and the church’s social teaching on one hand and the socio-historical reality on the other.

·        Reading the “signs of the times” to become more relevant to the Church’s mission and effective advocates for God’s reign on earth.

·        A commitment to justice and peace in a world marked by many conflicts and intolerable social and economic inequalities.

·        Adhering to the core values found in Christ’s teaching and in the tradition of the Church.

 

 

Vision:

To improve livelihoods for all families in Southern Sudan through love, Solidarity and Reconcialiation.

Mission

To foster community based initiatives that promote charity, solidarity and social justice becoming an instrument of reconciliation and human development in S. Sudan.

 

Strategic Goals (2008 - 2013)

·        To provide and strengthen a forum for dialogue at all levels enabling people to share ideas in order to learn from and support others’ efforts.

·        Through the diocese to carry out representation and advocacy action at National, state and International levels.

·        To provide capacity-development services at all levels in order to strengthen people’s ability to think strategically, plan, implement and evaluate programmes, mobilize resources and manage their organisation.

·        To carry out awareness sessions at all levels to combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases through training and linking up with organisations that sponsor these programmes.

Membership

Ordinary membership is to be determined by the following:-

·        Individuals

·        Sub-parishes

·        Parishes

·        Diocesan Caritas

·        Diocesan women Coordinators

 

Associate Membership of Caritas Maridi is determined by the following:

  • Pastoral – Liturgical Commission
  • Social Communications Commission
  • Peace and Justice Commission
  • Education Commission
  • Charitable Church Organisations & Institutions.

 

Membership fee

Each type of membership shall pay a membership and annual subscription fee to be determined by members at the annual general meeting.

 

 

Leadership

The members of caritas Maridi, both at the diocesan and parish levels, shall elect, among themselves their leadership.

 

There is an Executive Committee comprising of:-

  • Executive Director and Deputy Director elected by the members.
  • A treasurer appointed by the members.
  • 5 Committee Members at least 2 of whom shall be women elected by the members of the Diocesan Caritas Commission.  

 

The above shall be an entry points for Social services and development agency work in the Diocese.
